A proposal for Shoreditch Festival, Hackney, London 2008
The project proposes free limousine rides for local residents and visitors during Shoreditch Festival.
Inspired by traditional 'donkey rides', the participants will be 'transported' to a fantasy place during their ride, without physically leaving the neighborhood. Limousine Service allows participants to explore the local area from a new controversial setting of glamour and exclusiveness.
Set within a community festival, the project intends to question notions of inclusiveness and exclusiveness, the public and the private. By contrasting the inclusive nature of a community festival with the exclusive connotations of limousines, the project offers participants the opportunity to playfully observe and explore their own neighborhood from a different perspective, to step out from everyday life and view their area as an outsider .
